As a Sea Logistics Operational Care Specialist, Export, you will serve as a key point of contact for customers and shippers while supporting the day-to-day coordination of ocean export shipments. This is a customer-focused role that requires strong communication, organization, and the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced logistics environment.
How you create impact
You will support the export operations team by reviewing shipment documentation, ensuring required information is complete and accurate, and completing customs filings within required deadlines.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, Shipper's Letters of Instruction, powers of attorney, and other export documentation
- Verify that required shipment data is complete and accurate before filing
- Complete AES and export customs filings through internal systems
- Request missing or incomplete documentation from shippers and internal teams
- Manage a high volume of time-sensitive filings while maintaining accuracy
- Prioritize work based on shipment deadlines, documentation cutoffs, and changing operational needs
- Work effectively under pressure when documentation is received close to filing deadlines
- Follow up on incomplete information and update filings when necessary
- Maintain real-time visibility and accurate shipment information in internal systems
- Work closely with Customer Care and operational teams to support shipment execution
- Identify issues quickly, determine what information is missing, and take appropriate action to keep work moving
- Support additional export operational activities as knowledge and experience grow

- Customer service, logistics, transportation, freight forwarding, or similar experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple customer accounts and competing priorities
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and good judgment
- Ability to coordinate across teams to resolve customer and shipment issues
- Dependable, team-oriented approach with a strong work ethic
- Comfortable learning new systems, processes, and industry terminology
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft 365 applications
- High school diploma or GED
Previous experience in ocean freight, freight forwarding, export operations, or logistics is preferred. Candidates with strong customer-facing experience and the ability to learn the operational side of the business are also encouraged to apply.
This position is on-site in Detroit, Michigan.

This position has a starting salary of approximately $55,000 annually. Base pay is part of a competitive total rewards package that includes health and welfare benefits, a 401k retirement savings plan, tuition reimbursement, and incentive compensation for eligible roles.
Individual pay may vary based on experience, skills, job location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. Kuehne+Nagel reviews pay regularly to ensure competitive and fair compensation based on industry market data.
