It's more than a job
In this IT role, you will manage, develop, and support the technology infrastructure that powers Kuehne+Nagel’s global systems and operations. This contribution is vital to making both special and ordinary moments in the lives of people a reality. In fact, your work enables our teams to deliver fresh fruit, time-sensitive healthcare products and much more to people all around the world. Working in IT at Kuehne+Nagel contributes to more than we imagine.
As a Cloud FinOps Engineer (m/f/d), you will support the organization’s Cloud Financial Management (CFM) efforts by helping optimize cloud costs and maximize business value. You will work as part of the Cloud Value Engineering (CVE) team within the global KN Cloud Office, collaborating with teams and stakeholders across multiple international hubs. Your role will focus on integrating cloud cost management into product-level Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), enabling better financial transparency, supporting product innovation, and improving operational efficiency through FinOps and DevFinOps practices.
How you create impact
- Analyze cloud spending across applications using CFM tools such as resource tagging, dashboards, and automated cost advisors from AWS, GCP, and Azure.
- Work closely with finance, infrastructure, and cloud provider teams to improve cost management methods, tools, and financial data integration.
- Identify cost optimization opportunities and provide insights to support decision-making.
- Help establish the CFM team as a trusted advisor by applying strong engineering practices—clear outcomes, consistent models, data-driven analysis, and effective communication with stakeholders.
- Monitor daily cloud spending and prepare weekly and monthly reports for review.
- Provide expertise on cloud cost optimization strategies (e.g., rightsizing, waste reduction) and track the progress of optimization initiatives.
- Support operational teams in implementing CFM guardrails and cost controls.
- Advise development teams on FinOps/DevFinOps practices and cost-efficient solution design, contributing to broader cloud value engineering strategies.
What we would like you to bring
- Strong knowledge of AWS services, especially Cost Explorer, QuickSight dashboards, and AWS Budgets; experience with Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure is a plus.
- Good understanding of cloud fundamentals such as compute services, elasticity, tagging, billing, pricing models, discounts, and cost reporting tools.
- Familiarity with cloud financial management concepts like cost showback, cost attribution, forecasting, and amortization.
- Ability to analyze large financial datasets using standard tools and query languages.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for working with existing financial reports and processes.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to share insights and support decision-making.
- Experience with Policy-as-Code, integration into delivery pipelines, and operational monitoring/controls.
- Understanding of cost-efficient software architecture and experience coaching DevOps teams on Cloud Financial Management practices.
