Job Description
Contract Logistics Site Manager

It's more than a job

As part of the Contract Logistics team at Kuehne+Nagel, you will play a key role in designing, managing, and optimizing solutions that keep goods moving efficiently. Whether you’re leading a team, engineering processes, or driving projects, your work ensures that our customers’ products are stored, handled, and delivered with precision. From everyday essentials to seasonal items, what we do in Contract Logistics impacts businesses and communities around the world. At Kuehne+Nagel, your contribution goes far beyond the warehouse—it helps shape the flow of global trade.

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overall performance, governance, and strategic oversight of a logistics facility where day‑to‑day operations are executed by a Fourth‑Party Logistics (4PL) provider. This role serves as the senior on‑site owner’s representative, ensuring that the 4PL delivers against contractually defined service levels, cost targets, safety standards, and continuous improvement objectives.

The GM acts as the primary liaison between the company, the 4PL, customers, and internal stakeholders, with full accountability for operational outcomes while not directly managing frontline labor.

How you create impact

End-to-End Operations Leadership: Own facility performance across service, cost, quality, safety, and compliance while translating strategy into scalable, execution-ready operations and leading startups or expansions.

4PL Governance & Performance: Manage the 4PL contract, enforce KPIs/SLAs, run business reviews, and drive root-cause resolution while ensuring adherence to scope, pricing, and change management.

Financial Oversight: Oversee site P&L, validate invoices and cost structures, and drive cost optimization and productivity improvements aligned with service goals.

Customer & Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the senior point of contact, manage escalations, align site execution with network strategy, and collaborate cross-functionally (procurement, legal, IT, engineering).

Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement: Ensure regulatory compliance and safety accountability, while championing Lean/Six Sigma, process optimization, and technology-driven innovation.

What we would like you to bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive logistics, warehousing, or supply chain leadership experience.
  • Proven experience managing third‑party logistics (3PL/4PL) providers.
  • Strong commercial, financial, and contract management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Excellent stakeholder, customer, and executive communication skills.
  • Experience running/operating a sort center or hub.

Preferred

  • Experience in complex, high‑volume distribution environments.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent continuous improvement background.
  • Experience with contract logistics, control tower, or outsourced operating models.
