Job Description
Sea Logistics Customer Care Specialist, Export

It's more than a job

As a member of the Freight Forwarding team Kuehne+Nagel, you will play a key role in transporting goods, optimising processes, and fulfilling our customers' promises. And by transporting medicines, toys and important machine parts, you are not only delivering goods, you are making small and big moments possible for people all around the world. At Kuehne+Nagel, our contribution counts in more ways than we imagine.

‎
As a Sea Logistics Customer Care Specialist, Export, you will manage customer accounts supporting the export of agricultural commodities such as grain, soy, corn, and rice. This is a highly customer-facing role that combines account ownership with export shipment coordination. You will manage large container bookings, stay ahead of changing shipment requirements, keep customers informed, and work across internal teams, carriers, and other partners to resolve issues quickly.

Previous freight forwarding experience is preferred, but we are open to candidates with strong customer service and operational experience who are organized, proactive, dependable, and eager to learn.

How you create impact

You will own customer relationships while coordinating high-volume container movements from booking through execution. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, proactive communication, and the ability to act quickly when plans change.

  • Manage a portfolio of customer accounts and serve as a primary point of contact
  • Coordinate export bookings with ocean carriers, including large multi-container and recurring bookings
  • Monitor bookings and shipment activity closely and communicate schedule changes and other updates to customers
  • Maintain accurate shipment data, documentation, customer records, and system tasks
  • Work proactively to secure capacity and prevent issues that could disrupt customer shipments
  • Respond quickly to shipment exceptions and work with customers, carriers, trucking providers, overseas colleagues, and internal teams to resolve problems
  • Communicate directly by phone when issues require immediate attention rather than relying solely on email
  • Support teammates by providing account coverage during absences or periods of increased volume
  • Monitor service levels, KPIs, billing accuracy, and customer profitability
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and strengthen the customer experience

What we would like you to bring

You are highly organized, comfortable taking ownership of your work, and able to stay ahead of multiple moving pieces. You communicate confidently with customers and teammates and are willing to take initiative when something needs attention.

  • Customer service, logistics, transportation, freight forwarding, supply chain, or similar experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and time-sensitive customer needs
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to act quickly when issues arise
  • Comfortable communicating with customers and business partners by both phone and email
  • Dependable and team-oriented approach with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to learn new systems, processes, and industry terminology
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Professional working proficiency in English

Previous ocean freight, export, or freight forwarding experience is preferred, but not required. Experience managing customer accounts, coordinating complex orders or shipments, or working in a deadline-driven operational environment can also translate well to this role.
