As a Database Engineer - Microsoft SQL (m/f/d) you will design, implement, and maintain Microsoft SQL environments as part of our internal Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform. Our team delivers managed database services to KN business units worldwide, ensuring high reliability, scalability, and security for mission-critical applications. While Microsoft SQL will be your primary focus, a strong interest in automation and modern operational practices is essential. Hands-on automation experience is beneficial, but a proactive mindset toward automating repetitive tasks is what we value most.
How you create impact
- Design, configure, and optimize Microsoft SQL database environments.
- Work closely with development and infrastructure teams to support application requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues within the DBaaS platform, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
- Contribute to best practices and ongoing improvements, particularly in database automation.
- Drive automation initiatives for database provisioning, patching, and monitoring.
- Create and maintain documentation for automation solutions and self-service processes.
What we would like you to bring
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL architecture, configuration, performance tuning, and high-availability solutions.
- Basic experience with automation or scripting tools such as Ansible or PowerShell, along with a strong willingness to learn and apply automation to database operations.
- Knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL is a plus, as is familiarity with Terraform, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, and Git for version control.
- Strong ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- A proactive team player with a clear, confident communication style and a goal-oriented way of working.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Willingness to travel to Hamburg approximately 1 - 2 times per year.
