Join our team in Tessenderlo as a Customs Team Leader, where you’ll oversee and coordinate all customs activities at one operational site. You’ll lead a team of specialists, ensure smooth and compliant customs operations, and act as the key point of contact for both internal stakeholders and customers.

As a Customs Team Leader, you are responsible for overseeing and coordinating all customs activities at one operational site. You will lead a team of customs specialists, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of customs declarations.
You act as the central point of contact for internal departments and customers while safeguarding compliance with applicable regulations. In addition, you play a key role in driving continuous improvement and promoting a standardized way of working across the Customs organization. 

How you create impact

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of customs officers;
  • Manage workload distribution, performance, and follow-up;
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members;
  • Oversee daily customs operations (import, export, transit, bonded warehouse);
  • Ensure accuracy and timely processing of all customs activities;
  • Organize daily task allocation and weekly team meetings;
  • Ensure compliance with EU Customs Code, national laws, and internal procedures;
  • Act as the main point of contact for internal stakeholders and customers;
  • Investigate and resolve customs issues, discrepancies, and blocked shipments;
  • Maintain reporting, documentation, and drive standardization across teams

What we would like you to bring

  • Strong knowledge of EU customs regulations and bonded warehouse rules;
  • Proven leadership experience in fast-paced logistics/customs environments;
  • Clear and professional communication with stakeholders and authorities;
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset;
  • Ability to take initiative and drive continuous improvements;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;
  • Solid understanding of customs declarations and Incoterms;
  • Experience with customs systems (e.g., Stream, Organi) and MS Office;
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (additional languages are a plus)
