Role

The Customs Process Specialist will be responsible for the auditing of global import and export customs declarations for accuracy and compliance to specific customs regulations. The audit process would also ensure the declarations were also in adherence with the customer instructions as provided by the internal stakeholders within the Kuehne + Nagel network and to ensure that all relevant documentation in retain for compliance, and to identify and implement continuous improvement for processes and training as an outcome from the auditing task.

How you create impact

  • Quality audit import and export declarations according to customer instructions, customs regulations, laws, and procedures within the stakeholder country
  • Identify and maintain records of risk assessments, audit work product, and audit processes reporting potential areas of risk to management
  • Communicate findings and required actions to customs manager, team leader and compilers\
  • Develop and implement training, preventative action and continuous improvement plan based on audit findings
  • To assist with the training program of new customs brokers
  • Review and update Customs clearance training materials and written customs clearance instructions
  • Assist with development and deployment of a customs audit program
  • Drive automation opportunities in the customs auditing process
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with government regulations
  • Keeping up to date with trends and changes in laws and regulations within stakeholder country

What we would like you to bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration
  • Compliance and audit experience
  • Knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule
  • Knowledge of WCO Customs Import and Export Regulations
  • Knowledge of incoterms
  • Fluency in English -both Verbal & Written
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of audit methodologies
  • Attention to detail
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Effective problem solving skills
  • Ensures accountability
  • Task oriented
  • At least 3 years experience in a similar position in the past
  • Preferable to have operational knowledge of either airfreight, sea freight or road freight
