Procurement Category Manager

As a Category Manager at Kuehne+Nagel Belgium, you will play a key role in managing procurement activities for a wide range of indirect categories (e.g. packaging, storage solutions, warehouse equipment, automation, workwear, MHE, temporary labor, IT and general services). 

You will support our operations within Contract Logistics in BeNeLux, ensuring that all procurement activities contribute to safety, innovation, quality, operational and cost efficiency, sustainability and compliance with Kuehne+Nagel’s global standards. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive procurement professional who enjoys stakeholder and vendor management and looking for both short term solutions as long term strategy.  

You will be working in the BeNeLux procurement team of 12 people and report directly to the team leader sourcing BeLux. The location for this position is Belgium (We have offices in Geel, Tessenderlo, Beringen, …) but for some projects you must be willing to travel between the Benelux countries (depending on where the project is located). Most of the work can be done from the location.  

 
A key feature of the role is the diversity of stakeholders, you will operate at all levels within our organization. Implementing a category plan on tactical and strategic level and independently reaching your goals  are essential within our department. We drive value in a dynamic logistics environment with customer impact. 

How you create impact

 

  • Manage the full procurement process from market research and sourcing to negotiation, contracting and supplier performance management 
  • Build strong relationships with both strategic suppliers and internal stakeholders 
  • Lead local RFXs and support global sourcing initiatives where applicable 
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies 
  • Negotiate contracts and framework agreements 
  • Identify market trends and strategic cost-saving opportunities and proactively propose improvements 
  • Report on KPIs and strategic insights to management 
  • Manage your contract database 
  • Cooperate with our operational purchase team

What we would like you to bring

  • A completed higher professional education (HBO)/bachelor's or university degree 
  • Preferably completed Tactical or Strategic Purchasing Modules 1, 2 & 3 
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant work experience in a similar position 
  • Strong communication skills, organizational sensitivity and the ability to quickly adapt from 1 topic to another 
  • You can function well both independently and as part of a team and are able to maintain an overview in a complex and changing environment 
  • Fluent in English ; French or Dutch language skills are highly valued 
  • Willingness to continuously develop yourself
